Android Phone, Tablet & Box Setup
Android gives you the widest choice of players and the fewest restrictions. The same app works on a phone, a tablet and an Android TV box, and settings transfer between them.
Before you start
- Android 8.0 or newer (Android TV 9 or newer for boxes)
- Play Store access, or a browser to sideload an APK
- Your M3U link or Xtream Codes login
Step by step
-
Install a player
From the Play Store choose IPTV Smarters Pro, TiviMate or OTT Navigator. On a TV box, install from the Play Store on the box itself so the interface scales correctly.
-
Log in with Xtream Codes
Select the Xtream Codes API login and enter the server URL, username and password. This is faster than M3U and enables catch-up and VOD metadata.
-
Confirm the playlist loaded
Open Live TV and check that categories appear. If the list is empty, re-enter the server URL and make sure it includes the port if your provider supplied one.
-
Enable hardware decoding
In player settings, set the decoder to hardware (HW) or hardware+. Software decoding on a cheap box is the single most common cause of stuttering 4K.
-
Set up the guide and favourites
Add the EPG URL, refresh, then star the channels you actually watch. Favourites make a 45,000-channel list usable on a remote control.
Make it work better
- On Android TV boxes, disable Wi-Fi power saving under Network settings.
- Clear the player cache monthly: Settings → Apps → player → Storage → Clear cache. Never clear data, or you lose the playlist.
- Give the box a static IP or a DHCP reservation so favourites and settings survive a router restart.
Common questions
Which Android player is best?
TiviMate for a TV box, IPTV Smarters Pro for phones and tablets. Both support Xtream Codes, catch-up and a full EPG.
Why does 4K stutter on my Android box?
Usually software decoding or a box with an older chipset. Switch to hardware decoding first, then check whether the box supports HEVC in hardware.
Can I copy my setup to another Android device?
Yes, in most players you can back up the configuration and restore it on another device. Otherwise just sign in with the same Xtream credentials.
